This website captures a moment in the existence of the Hybrid Media Lounge, an online database.
The Hybrid Media Lounge is an attempt to begin two ambitious projects:
building a directory of hybrid art-political-cultural-digital activities in Europe and visually mapping the networks between their instigators.
The Hybrid Media Lounge consist of a database and the archived material of the Hybrid Workspace, an experiment during the Documenta X festival in 1997.
The information in this database was provided by the "member" organizations, individuals and other entities themselves.
The database can be searched in four areas: Hard Data, Soft Data, Context and Network.
In the fifth area you will find archived material from the Hybrid Workspace.

In Hard Data you can search via members' names, languages, home countries, and Web sites.
In Soft Data you can search through members' "ratings" of themselves in terms of several qualities, topics and emphases, and you can see how these ratings are distributed across a map of Europe.
In Context you can see what kind of resources -hardware, bandwidth, cash and flesh - members have to work with country by country and search by that information.
In Network you can see the relationships between members (as described by them), which is another way to search. And you can also read members' own definitions of the word "network."
In the fifth area, you will find archieved material from the Hybrid Workspace. The Workspace, an experiment during the DocumentaX festival in 1997, gave birth to the idea of the Lounge as a permanent space for recording the kind of collaboration that went on there.
The Lounge does not pretend to be complete. It is most of all an ongoing project. We look forward to including more organizations, and to seeing how the content morphs, in the future.
